Books
- Christian Ethics: Contemporary Issues & Options by Norman Geisler. This book provides a solid overview of Christian ethics, but it is somewhat dated. The writing style is approachable, numerous topics are covered, and it is a great starting point for someone interested in learning more about Christian ethics.
- Evangelical Ethics by John Jefferson Davis. This is an accessible treatment of Christian ethics that is shorter than many of the books on this page. However, despite its shorter page count, this book does an exceptional job of covering several hot-button issues.
- Ethics for a Brave New World by John S. Feinberg and Paul D. Feinberg. The Feinberg brothers have written a superb Christian ethics book. The book covers all the standard topics found in Christian ethics books, but some of the material on cutting edge issues is now dated. However, while material some areas may be outdated due to advances in technology, the book as a whole is very solid, and the Feinbergs do a wonderful job of defending their positions.
- Fundamental Christian Ethics by Daniel Heimbach. This book is an exemplary treatment of Christian ethics, and a great resource to have on the shelf. Heimbach provides overviews of numerous ethical issues, and spends substantial time explaining the underpinnings of Christian ethics.
- Ethics as Worship by Mark D. Liederbach and Evan Lenow. This book takes a fresh approach to Christian ethics. The authors have a style that is approachable yet thorough, and the notion of ethics as worship is an encouragement in a field that deals with heavy topics.
- Christian Ethics: Living a Life That Is Pleasing to God by Wayne Grudem. This book is not for the faint of heart, as it is more than 1,000 pages in length.
- Moral Choices: An Introduction to Ethics by Scott Rae. A solid overview of Christian ethics and ethical reasoning. Many seminarians have been assigned this book as part of their ethics training. If you are wanting something that is a good balance between depth and approachability, then this might be just the book for you.
- Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics: An Introduction to Theories of Right and Wrong by Steve Wilkens. A very approachable introduction to ethical systems. If you want to get introduced to relativism, hedonism, ethical egoism, and several other approaches to ethics, then this is a great resource.
- Christian Ethics: Four Views. This book provides an overview of four different views of Christian ethics: virtue, command, natural law, and prophetic. Each position is presented by a representative of that school of thought and critiques are provided by the other contributors. This is a great resource to get an idea of some of the different ways Christians approach ethics.
- An Introduction to Biblical Ethics by David W. Jones. Biblical ethics is distinct but related to Christian ethics. This is a short and approachable book that provides a great introduction to the field. On the down side, because of its brevity, the book does not spend as much time on specific issues as the others on this page.
- An Introduction to Biblical Ethics: Walking in the Way of Wisdom by Robertson McQuilkin and Paul Copan. If you are wanting to do a deeper dive into Biblical ethics, then you will probably find this book a valuable resource.
